Nostalgia

 Nostalgia

Nostalgia is lovingly longing and recalling memories helping us to cope with anxiety saturation and loneliness. It usually comes with a positive effect where the person wishes to be in that moment again to be there with the better version of himself. We mostly feel nostalgic while visiting some places smelling a scent, listening to some sort of music or a familiar voice, reading a certain book or meeting a person after a long time, looking at flowers for a while, or having a cup of tea. But

  • Why do we get an essence of our past from some places some things and even from some people?
  • Why do we just recall and rehash our memories?
  • Why do we love to share the things we already know?
  • Why does sometimes it feel like getting flashbacks of some sort of memories from a thing?

Henceforth the foremost point is what are memories? Memories are the images or feelings of our past recalled by the part of our brain to remember our past experiences adding bittersweet flavor to our lives.

Mostly memories are unforgettable and remain vivid in our minds and hearts and usually, our most beautiful experiences are not associated with money but with the memories.

We are prone to nostalgia it seems simple like we are diving into our cozy memories and feeling good while thinking about them but wait much more is going on.

We easily feel nostalgia as it gives us warmth fondness longing and even more the experience of something, it feels like a sort of diving into mental time travel going back to that time.

It is always not good but sometimes it comes with bad memories leaving us overthinking and analyzing ourselves in the past helping us to process our current situation.

I've read somewhere we are connected to our memories so badly that we are the slaves of those places or things like just listening to some music or smelling the same fragrances you have smelt earlier will make you fall into nostalgia. It recalls our relationships with some people places or things. It involves personal reflection of someone's life.

Mostly nostalgic memories are connected to our childhood because we just love our childhood as we appreciate ourselves at that time for accepting us as it is as we are.

Nostalgia has lots of positive effects as it boosts inspiration, makes us more lively and youthful, increases creativity, and a sense of being us. It helps to relieve pain and increase the ability to detect threats.

Nostalgia can be both sour and sweet with happy memories. in nostalgia, we look at the memories through rose-tinted glass looking at the good aspects and also it gives us a sense of sadness that time has gone and we are unable to go back in that time. We are romanticizing our past while longing for it. Psychology says that by time bad memories fade away faster than happy memories as we are looking at them by a rose-tinted filter.

Ending it with the conclusion that trying to save the pictures and voices of your loved one will surely help you to relieve pain by giving nostalgic memories with them and helps you to assess yourself and be the good version of yourself and what you are meant to be.

  1. Niko. By God! These are the words of my heart too while recalling memories of my Late mother. Memories are worthless if one can not accept the living moments and reality of his life. You should be brave enough to embrace your today's life challenges. Gratitude towards what we have in life can throw out bad memories and their negative impact on our mental health.
